How can I get Diskeeper 7 or 8 to work. A message keeps
coming up that CHKDSK is scheduled to work on the next
reboot, but it never does. Neither CHKDSK nor the hard
disk defragmenter will work. Microsoft never gets a
solution, saying they're still working on it.

CHKDSK is NOT keeping defrag from working!
I know it effective looks like it. Your disk is screwed
up so bad Diskeeper can't run. That's why it says to run
CHKDSK.
Since it doesn't seem to want to run, try booting off the
Windows XP CD, go into Recovery Console, and at the
prompt, type CHKDSK /R. It could take hours to run or as
little as several minutes, depending on how fast your
drive is, how screwed-up it is, etc.
If you don't have a bootable CD, try booting into Safe
Mode and run CHKDSK /R from there (at a DOS prompt), then
reboot.
CHKDSK can't check your pagefile. You should set your
minimum pagefile size to a minimal 32MB before running
CHKDSK. Leave the maximum size alone. After a successful
CHKDSK, set the minimum pagefile back to the suggested
size or a bit more than that.
