i have 65 systems that are all built exactly the same way.
they all have 6 120gb drives on a promise raid card. they
have an 80gb drive to service as a boot drive only.
occasionally the systems will reboot without warning.
sometimes this forces chkdsk to start after the reboot. it
scans the 6 drives and hangs on some or all of them
randomly. in other words, after the scan, it displays a
couple of periods at the bottom of the screen and then
stops. when i force a reboot on the system, it moves to
the next volume (drive) sometimes it will lock; sometimes
it will scan two more volumes, then lock; sometimes it
will scan the rest of the volumes and boot as normal. what
is chkdsk doing to cause this problem?
