Need to re-phrase my question. Can a board have nForce2 and northbridge on
it at the same time? Are they for the same purpose? The reason I'm asking is
a builder/supplier in the gigabyte group had a bunch of boards blow the
northbridge chip when a USB device was plugged in. My GA 7N400 uses an
nForce2 chipset. I don't see anything in the manual specs about northbridge.

Most motherboards have a chipset made up of a North bridge and a South
bridge, which are two separate chips. Your GA-7N400 is like this. The NB has
an aluminum heatsink, where the SB, marked Nvidia as well, does not.
I have not heard of the NB being damaged by using USB in any board.
