Would appreciate postings on status of workarounds, all brands. Which
types have
timed, or date certain shutdown? List of schemes used to determine
when a cartridge is shut down? Where is cartridge status stored?
Anyone really working on this? Thanks.

My work around plans, the CLI-8 cartridges for the ip6600D
run about $15 doillars, it akes six of them, for a cost of about $90.
New machines complete with cartridges can be had for less than $100,
no fuss, no dust, seems to be a better route!

CLI-8 carts are refillable, although you then lose the ink monitoring
function and have to check them visually. Buying a new printer to "harvest"
the new carts isn't a bad idea as you will then have two sets of carts to
refill and always have a set in reserve. The Nifty-stuff forum has a thread
on backflushing bci-6 carts after several refills to wash out any dried ink
in the sponge so they can be refilled several times again. I recently read
a post on the Nifty Stuff forum that the Canon cart chips have several
levels of encryption that will preclude anyone duplicating them for
aftermarket carts or making a chip resetter. If anyone succeeds in making
an aftermarket chip Canon would undoubtedly sic their attorneys on the
manufacturer.

Amazon has a 4 pack of CLI-8 cartridges for $45, PM for $8.80.

But if you want a spare printhead the complete printer route is a
better deal.
