chinese characters replacing my data

I have an Access 2000 db that has been in use for a little over a year and
recently I have had 2 records where the data has been replaced by chinese
characters - Does anyone know why this is happening?? is my database
corrupt??
 
I have had that happen when I had a database on a server and more than one
person was in the same record at the same time. The one user got the message
about saving, copying or deleting your changes, well, as soon as she chose to
save her changes, all the data changed to Chinese or Japanese or something.
To fix it, I had to make the record lock property = to edited record for that
form and subform. It hasn't happend since.
