I have a Logitech MX518 mouse and today Windows Update (WU) showed a driver
for the Chic USB Browser Mouse. Is this a case of WU incorrectly
identifying the hardware or is this driver appropriate?

My Vista with Logitech MX310 also spotted this update. Installed it and it
works fine.

The driver does show as Chic mfr in Device Manager..... it still works -
with no noticeable change.

It is a 'browser' mouse I guess, with back button, but like you, not sure
why it picked up a Chic driver for Logitech mouse... better than using the
massive logitech drivers though.

Yes.. I have a G7 Logitech, I mistakenly added this to download and now I am
having a funny issue with my mouse. It seems like it wants to double click
on stuff when I only single click. This happens very erratically.. it is not
a mouse issue (the mouse is 4 months old and buttons do not stick).

Got the same thing on my MX600, too. I thought "CHIC" was some new acronym
that I missed, not a brand. So, I installed the driver. Works fine,
though. Like you, I wonder why Vista would identify a Logitech mouse as a
Chic mouse.

I'm not having any problems either, but it made me wonder. In the past WU
has occasionally offered hardware drivers that have caused problems, so I'm
being cautious.

I'm getting the same thing with a Kensington trackball (called an Expert
Mouse) going through a Belkin USB hub. I think this is what's causing my IE
to really act strange as if at random times when I click that SHIFT or CTRL
is on.

I got this as well, on a 64-bit desktop with a Logitech PS/2 mouse
(installed a CHIC driver labeled "PS/2 Mouse") and also on my 32-bit laptop,
the driver for both the USB mouse and the touchpad was updated with the new
CHIC driver. No idea what the difference is, everything still works fine.
