I have 3 questions, t hank you for your help.

My PC light blinks all the time, 24/7, when there is no activity going on.
The light flashes VERY BRIGHT, also some flashes are dimmer, but all very
constant. Isn't this

How does one find out what files are supposed to be in the System and System
32 folders? I would like to check it to what I have to see if there are too
many - there are 1,000's of files, too many to count, just in those 2 folders.

Also, one file is suspect. It's called HPHMON04.exe. The icon is like a TV
screen and it is very bright green. It is always running. Is this normal??

You need to ensure that you have a firewall and anti-virus program loaded,
running and updated.. also, visit these sites, download the FREE programs,
and run them..

REMOVING a VIRUS.. http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

Spyware remover.. SPYBOT 1.3 download..

Eaglelady,
This could be normal. See the link for
more info:

HTH.

As an addenda, if you have certain screensavers running, they will activate
your HDD lights.. the preponderance of files in system32 folder is your
installation of XP.. do not delete any of them..

HPHMON04.exe - Do you have an HP printer or camera or some HP product
that reads media cards?

The lights flashing can depend on what is going on.
Follow the yellow section on this link to check for viruses and
spyware:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/slowcom.htm
Also see:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/security.htm

There will be a lot of files in those folders.
Other than maintaining the computer as suggested above there is no
easy answer...unless you want to Google for each file to determine the
purpose.
Do NOT delete anything unless you are absolutely sure of its purpose
and effect upon removal.

I already have Stinger, Spybot and Adaware, didn't have the search engine
bar remover - thanks. I guess the HPHMON04.exe file for my HP printer is
supposed to be lit up all the time. Seems strange, when printer isn't on or
being used.

Thanks, everyone, for all the good answers and help.
