Checking for the latest error

I can click on windows update, then scan for updates, but
the next window checking for the latest..... freezes and
it won't go any further. I have disabled Norton
antivirus and disabled the firewall.

What could be wrong now.

Go into control pannel / internet options / temporary internet files
settings button / view objects / and right click update class and select
remove.

go to windows update with firewall off and say yes to install the update
class program when prompted.

See what happens from there.
