How does one go about checking the entire disk for bad sectors (ie.
surface scan) under XP with NTFS volumes on the disk?

Norton Disk Doctor only checks the free space for bad sectors, as it
seems the XP disk checking utility does as well.

Thanks,
Bob

Start|Run|Type cmd|OK|Type chkdsk C: /f/v at the command line. Upon the
next reboot it will do a scan and report bad sectors. Another way is to
download a diagnostic utility from the maker's website.

chkdsk /r (y) which will run from a console on reboot.
Then read the event viewer for complete info.
