I have been unable to complete a defrag(its keeps stopping at 45%) so I
decided
to chkdsk but it stops at no 4(checking data). It fixed some orphan files in
no 3.Is there a serious
problem developing with my HDD(compaq presario 2100 laptop).Thanks.

Allow chkdsk to complete. It can take hours if there are problems found or
on very large drives.

Actually youre best bet is to boot to xp cd,recovery, press enter for
password,
then type:CHKDSK C: /R When its thru (20 min or so),type:EXIT Let xp start,
remove cd.Back in xp,go to run,type:cmd In cmd type:Defrag C: When its
thru type:EXIT

You should always remove Temporary Internet File in each and every user
profile before running chkdsk. It eliminates a potential problem.

Hope this helps.
