Strange as it may seem,most power supply's are installed up-side down..
Even when installed by a pc mfg,1 out of 5 that were checked had the board
of the power supply facing the top of the case,it should be facing downwards,
& the split of the shell should be on the bottom (in most cases)...If run
upside
down,the heat-sinks face the bottom,not the top as they should...

Where do you come up with such nonsense? The physical orientation of
the power supply has absolutely no bearing upon its operation.

Yes it does. If the power supply is upside down then the electrons will leak
out and build up in the case. Once the level of electrons reach the CPU they
will cause the CPU core to transform into a black hole which will steadly
increase in mass and finally burn its way to the centre of the Earth and
destroy the entire universe.

I know this to be true because that nice man that sold me a wonderful bridge
yesterday told me it was so.

Since there is no vent in the top of the power supply or the case, what
difference can it possibly make?

Not quite correct. It's not the lectrons leaking out that stop the power
supply from working.

What is a major problem is if the smoke escapes from your power supply.
Once that has escaped, it will never work again. I have observed several
examples of this in practice so I know it is true.

The computer case has screws that allow the PSU to be mounted
in just one position...
so it's best to leave it alone and not drill new holes etc.

Except for the PSU's that have a fan on the bottom...
it generally does not matter what position the PSU is in

That's very true. It's important to keep the magic smoke inside the
power supply.
