Hi all,

Most of my programs I run from the start menu (win98SE). I'm looking for
something to scan the start menu for broken shortcuts, like shortcuts left
after a bad uninstall and other shortcuts pointing nowhere. Any help
appreciated.
TIA

That feature is built in to the Toni Arts reg tool, Easy Cleaner. Works
well.

Did you hear the one about the dyslexic, agnostic, insomniac?
He would stay up late every night and wonder if there was a dog.

Thanks for the info, I just noticed that CCleaner has this option to.

Apparently, though, it can only delete broken shortcuts, not attempt to
repair them.

Hi _Rod_,
Thanks Karen. Exactly what I needed and only a 35Kb download.
Thanks again.

I've tested it today.
It's nice and does its job, however one thing upsets me: "it is a standalone
program, so it doesn't require any installation" as the author says, true,
but don't think it doesn't write into the registry.
The lacking of an uninstall in this cases is worst, thinking to all people
who don't monitor the first run with something like Total Uninstall.

For ShortcutsMan is only one key with seven values, anyway I don't like even
one if I'm not advised it exists.

(+)(chiave) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NirSoft\ShortcutsMan
(+)(valore) AskBeforeAnyAction = 1
(+)(valore) Columns = ....P...,...D.......P...x...x.......x......
(+)(valore) MarkBrokenShortcuts = 1
(+)(valore) SaveFilterIndex = 0
(+)(valore) ShowGridLines = 1
(+)(valore) Sort = 0
(+)(valore) WinPos = ,...........................7...*...........

Thanks for pointing that out Maria Luisa, that is a bit of a shame. You're
right in saying it should have been mentioned. I for one didn't use Total
Uninstall, but I'm going to use Regcleaner and/or Regseeker to clear things
up if I ever decide to get rid of the program.
Thansk again.

Another thing I don't like is how it immediately searches the shortcuts when
you start. I think it would be better behavior to wait until the user asks
to scan shortcuts.

If I knew that was what he was asking for, I would not have offered, but
he mentioned "scan" not "repair". Usually all that is needed is to find
them and delete them.

JMHO.
