Hi:

I have a friend who has a Sony VGC-RB42G desktop computer running XP
MCE(2002) SP3 and in the last week or so started having problems with the
Media Center "Live TV".

How can I check to determine if she is getting a good TV signal coming
into the computer? I thought about uninstalling the MPEG RealTime Encoder
Board Driver and reinstalling to see if this would resolve the issue, but I
wanted to rule out any possible other causes prior.

Any suggestions/recommendations will be appreciated.

Thanks,

The best way to check the signal coming in the RF cable to the computer is
to try that connection on a modern (less than one year old) Digital TV.

You can find a signal strength gauge in Media Center Setup.
See Step 3a.

Can she still play recorded TV programs of DVDs in MC?
Can she set up a program to be recorded using the MC guide?

Hi:

I have an update, as I spoke with her today.

She is getting a good signal, as when she first opens Media Center and
Live TV it will play both audio and video and then after clicking the plus
sign to change channels 3 or 4 times Media Center just hangs up with no
audio.

It has a Sony MPEG RealTime Encoder Board and I reinstalled the applicable
driver for it that I got from Sony website for her computer model. The
driver version was 1.1.4.8050 that reinstalled and was the same as previous
driver version.

Her ISP is Time Warner cable and there seems now also to be some Guide
problems, as after she reinstalls new guide for it the channels do not match
up etc.

Thanks,
