Lately when I start up WinXP Home, check disk will run. It found cross-linked files etc., resolved by copying etc. but each time I start it up again, the same thing happened. I thought that check disk is supposed to fix the problem??? Is there any other utility that can do a better job?

If chkdsk is finding numerous problems with your hard disk, that could very
well be a sign that your hard disk is about to fail.

Go the web site of the company that manufactured your hard disk. They will
likely have diagnostic tests designed specifically for their own disks. If
those diagnostics reveal a problem, you need to replace the disk.

I'd do this as soon as possible if I were you, and in the meantime I'd
backup frequently.
