when I turn my computer on it tells me that I need to
check disk for errors. It says that I don't have to do
this but it recommends that I do. When I do it my
computer eventually freezes. What does this mean and how
do I fix it?

Eric, go to a command prompt and try running the following commands for
each hard drive letter in your system:

chkdsk c: /r

It should tell you that it can't lock the drive for exclusive access and
do you want to schedule it for the next reboot. Answer yes to each one,
then reboot the machine. That will perform the most thorough disk check
that NTx can perform during the next reboot.
