What do you plan to scan and how heavy is your usage going to be??

(Prints, text, slides or negatives Makes a difference. If film, what size)

Which scanner would people recommend for under £500.00?

A real cheapskate would only look at scanners less than £100.00.

I bought an Epson 2480 photo for $89.99 US. Professionals
would find it a poor choice, but I'm happy with it for home use.

But don't buy it on my recommendation. I've only used one other
scanner, an older cheap machine that wasn't as good, and don't
know how well it compares to other cheap scanners available
today.

Hi Dave

I'd be scanning kids' drawings, watercolours, transparencies, negatives
35 mm and medium format, both colour & B&W and film prints. Light to
medium usage.

The 2480 cannot handle MF neg or diapos, not film nor mounts. the slide
and film strip holder can, with quite careful touch of coping saw and
craft knife, be made to border the dimensions of your MF film. But each
holder costs $30+. I cut and pasted for 127 and 126 negs, 120(2 1/4 sq)
mounted diapos : I have more $ into the Holders than the base unit, but
less $ than a legacy MF film scanner from eBay. Other flatbeds with film
strip holders may also be convertable.

Theo
