Just wondering... since the highspeed dialup modem is going the way of the
dodo, have there been any non-modem devices that do voicemail, caller ID and
faxing?
They'd still be called modems, as products, so it's kinda
hard to call them non-modem.
I've no use for the data side of a fax/voice modem.
That data side is what a fax is. Being able to use it for
dial-up internet is no loss, just another thing it can do
given the basic requirements for voice or fax and the modern
technology do go faster than fax too.
If you found some device that was artifically limited to
only being able to do voice and fax, it would just cost more
for no benefit. Why would anyone buy it? Lack of sales
would drive up the per unit cost even more.
If you want to deliberately limit your modem to not be able
to do dial-up internet you should remove the dial-up adapter
as a networking device. Then again, unless you give the
system some phone number to call an ISP, it's kinda hard for
it to do it anyway...
