Is it possible to set the colour of a chart sheet (not the chart area o
plot area, which are both transparent) as something other than whit
without inserting a picture as a background (which is memory hungry fo
multiple chart sheets)

Hi Jon

I could, but I want to paste the same linked chart into several
powerpoint presentations with different coloured, usually dark,
backgrounds. For the chart to be visible in powerpoint and consistent
with the presentation's appearance I must set text and borders to
white, and for the coloured background to show through in powerpoint,
the chart area and plot area must be transparent. But this makes the
chart impossible to see on the white background of the excel chart
sheet.

I guess I can either move the charts from chart sheets to objects in
coloured worksheets, or temporarily change the chart area to a dark
background, switching back to transparent ath the last minute. But I
was hoping for a slightly quicker way.

This was going to be my next suggestion. If you use code to copy/paste
to Powerpoint (I do, even for a single chart; that button on my command
bar is getting tattered from use!) you could have it change the chart
area to transparent, copy the chart, paste it, then change back the
background.
