A lot of the people in my office create 95% of their charts in their excel
spreadsheets and later ask me to put together their presentations. I have
not figured out an easy way which I can copy and paste an excel generated
chart into powerpoint and have the chart follow the designated ppt template
design formatting. It would be great if I could convert the pasted chart
into a powerpoint chart but I have not found such a feature. Any
suggestions?

I am using Office PowerPoint 2003 sp1.

Thanks,
Gary

Try this ...

In Excel, select the chart you want to send to PowerPoint. Copy it (Ctl-C)

In PowerPoint, goto the slide you want to have the chart on. Select (from
the menu bar) Edit | Paste Special ... Then select Excel chart from the
list of options.

please post back if this solution is not what you were looking for.

I can get the chart in fine but when coming from excel, it won't follow
color schemes or design templates. PowerPoint won't allow reformatting of
the chart via template designs.

You can set up an Excel workbook with appropriate colors and then apply the
color scheme of that workbook to the workbooks you receive from your
colleagues. You'll need to have your master color scheme workbook open when
you go to apply the colors, as the box only shows open workbooks as
available.

In Excel, look under Tools/Options on the Color tab and use "copy colors
from..."

So what you'd do is create a workbook with your appropriate color scheme and
then open that when you open your colleague's workbooks, as when you use
"copy colors from," only open workbooks are available in the choices.

Oh, my fault for not reading your post correctly.

In PowerPoint 2002, if you paste the chart as a picture, then recolor the
picture (to only colors used in the color scheme), than it appears that
changing the scheme updates the colors on the picture of the chart.

The bugger is having to change each color manually in the picture.

Thanks. I've tried both of these suggestions and they each have potential
for "work arounds". Thanks for you time.
