I leave my lap-top permanently connected to the power supply. I just
disconnect it when I take it to the local library or so. Will this procedure
harm the hardware or the battery itself?

Hello,

If you are not using the battery for a long period, it is better to keep it
in the fridge with 40% charge. Otherwise, the hardware will not sustain any
damage from what you are doing other than normal wear and tear.

Why ask here? This has absolutely nothing to do with the OS.

Ask elsewhere.
