how can I change the spacing between characters (kerning). When I type into a text box I can't find a way to increase space between the letters

Steve,

The only thing I can find is that Word Art can do this. Maybe an options to
format the text in Word and paste special into PowerPoint in some suitable
format?

You're looking for two different things here...kerning is making special
pairs of letters close together...W and A, for instance. Increasing space is
simply letter spacing. PowerPoint doesn't support this natively.

FWIW, letter spacing isn't a big deal when you're using a projector; there
just isn't enough resolution to support fine type details. If the letters
are too close to be legible, then IMO you need to make them bigger or use a
different font.

One workaround...insert spaces between the letters. Adjust the font size of
the spaces. For instance, the text might be 32 points. The space between
each letter might be 6 points.

Hello,

PowerPoint does not have the specific capability that you are looking for,

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that PowerPoint should
greater control over character spacing (avg. spacing between chars, kerning
paris, ligatures, etc.), don't forget to send your feedback to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)
