How many characters may be placed before a file extension (e.g. .doc or
..docx, etc.) before you lose the file extension?
Thanks!

Hi,

Total path size is limited to 260 characters up through Windows XP. I
do not know if that has changed with Windows Vista. It may be an NTFS
limitation.

Docent,

I'm not sure what this has to do with Access but I am curious... Where are
you going to "lose" it to? The maximum length of a file name is 255 or 260
but you don't exactly lose the file extension. Perhaps reading this will
help...

For future questions you should probably post to the Windows newsgroup.
