Is there a way to change the computer username (example from bob to sam)
without messing things up or creating two separate usernames accounts?

Suggestions greatly appreciated.

Jim

No
you can only as administrator create a new Account lets say SAM and then
copy BOB to Sam.
The catch is that you cannot sign in as either SAM or BOB while doing this.
So you need to create a 3rd Account with admin privileges and sign in with
that account
and use that for the copy process and then delete afterwards
Now create the SAM account.....
Then right click MyComputer...Properties...Advanced....User
Profiles/Settings
Highlight the User you wish to copy(BOB) and click "copy to"
In the next box browse to the new user name ( usually under C:\documents and
settings)(SAM)
OK your way out
Now sign out and sign in as SAM..........check to make sure it's all there
if it is you can
now delete the BOB user and the one you created to do this

Thanks Peter for your suggestion. I tried something similar to that before
and had to do an image restore to get things back to normal.

My problem is this: Two XP Pro systems running on a LAN. Shares turned on,
Remote Desktop works but I don't have permissions to copy files between "My
Documents" folders on either computer, only can copy to the Shared folders.
The two systems have different usernames so I was told I have to make both
names the same. That worked but is that the only way I can get this to work?

TIA
