My old computer only had Microsoft Works, so all my files
were saved in Works. My new computer has Word and I want
to pull up and transfer old files from my floppy disks to
a CD. However, when I try to pull up the Works files on
my new computer, it tells me it cannot open the file;
Windows needs to know what program I created it in. When
I go through the list of programs, Works is not one of
them. When I try to pull up the file in Word anyway, it
comes up as a series of y's and square boxes. If I try
to open up the old files using Notebook, I get my
original files, but they are full of boxes and other
symbols, so I have to go through each document and take
out all of the garbage.
All I want to do is look at my old files that were
created in Works!! Why can't Microsoft read these old
Works files or at least transfer them to Word
format????? The file type of these old Works files
are "File."
Any help would be greatly appreciated. As you can see, I
am "computer software challenged."
