Changing UAC decisions?

While I realize home versions cannot change the UAC security levels, can
anyone tell me how to change a setting selected through the UAC?

In this case during installation of other software, the setting was made to
"always" engage setup.exe.
misclick or misunderstanding I couldnt tell you, but now, even for
programs already installed, insertion of the disc leads to an instant "setup
would like to run" message.
Some programs require the disc to be in the drive.. now its attempting to
reinstall everytime I go to use those programs and place the disc in the
drive.

Is shutting off the UAC my only option in home edition? (as opposed to
resetting to default)
if so... wow.. bad call Microsoft.

You have a few options.

1. You can tell us what game it is and we'll apply an app-compat shim
(assuming it doesn't really need admin rights).
2. You can apply an app-compat shim (using the app-compat toolkit (v5.0) to
mark the exe as a non-installer).
3. Or you can turn off installer detection by setting
Key: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
Value: EnableInstallerDetection
to 0

Does that help?

Thanks,
James
