Exchange 2000 requires me to have my Active Directory configured to be
Native mode instead of the Mixed mode. I have two BDC's with NT4 on them
and clients with windows 95 and 98. What am I in for if I switch to Native
mode with this setup?

Thanks!!

The switch to native mode will prevent replication between the Win 2k PDC
emulator and all NT 4.0 BDCs.
Password changes will not be replicated to the NT 4.0 BDCs.

I would suggest you upgrade the NT 4.0 BDCs to Win 2k first. This has no
affect on your clients or member servers.

Dan,

I am not sure that I understand why Exchange 2000 is requiring that your AD
be in Native Mode! Out of the box this is not a requirement. I suspect
that you have done / will do something ( Exchange - related ) that requires
AD to be in Native Mode.

As Danny suggested, once you make the switch from Mixed Mode to Native Mode
your two WINNT 4.0 BDCs will no longer function as BDCs. They effectively
become member servers. This *may* cause some problems. I would suggest
that you install the Active Directory Client Extensions on your WIN9x
clients. Here is a link:

I might also suggest - as Danny did - that you upgrade the two WINNT 4.0
BDCs to WIN2000 if it is possible.

The "In place upgrade" whitepaper for upgrading 5.5 to 2000 says at least
one forest must be in native mode. We only have a single forest and
domain. I thought it wasn't needed but that document states that it does,
but doesn't give a reason. Any thoughts?
