Changing the Number of Hits

I am having difficulty changing the hit count on my counter. Using FP2002. I want to reset the counter to a new figure but it doesn't seem to want to take.

Any help would be most appreciated. Many thanks.

Open your live site in FrontPage, in the _private folder, there will be a
page with the same name as the page your counter is on, but it will end in
..cnt. Open it in Notepad and edit the number and save.
