I am trying to correct the spelling of the logon name that
appears at the top of the Start Menu when clicking the
start button. Where does this come from? I have renamed
the desktop icon for the old "My Computer" but this
doesn't change the one in the Start Menu window. The
computer name is spelled correctly.

Go to control panel --> user account

Click on the account name that you want to change and then
the first option says "change my name" this is where you
change the name that you are referring to!

Control Panel -> user accounts -> select your account -> click 'change my name'

On a similar note, my name is correct but I have no user icon showing. I'm
using the XP style Start Menu but have no icon. I'm the only user profile
set up on this system and I have fast user switching disabled. How do I get
an icon showing?

Hi Cindy,

Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords
Click you name, then select Change my name.

Hi Rich,

This can happen if you have Picture and Fax Viewer disabled, to restore:
Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 shimgvw

Note: It is only there if you are using XP themes. If using classic there
is no picture.

I had fast boot and the welcome screen disabled in the logon options.
Restoring those options restored the user icon.
