Changing the name of a Domain Controller

I am trying to change the name of my Domain Controller
that is running Windows 2000 Advanced Server, but not
Active Directory. I would also like to create a 'backup'
and do manual replication if necessary since converting to
Active Directory is not a future option. How can I go
about this?

I believe it is a simple solution of placing the 'backup'
on the domain, loaded with the Advanced Server OS.
Copying everything from the Domain Controller (or Ghosting
the hard drives), promote the new computer to Domain
Controller, demote the original, change the name then
switch them back. It seems a simple process but I'm not
in charge and will have to come up with a set of
procedures to be able to implement it. Oh yeah, the
present DC is in mixed mode. Please let me know if it's
as simple as I've layed out and then I can write up a set
of procedures, or point me in the direction of the "how
to". You can also respond to my personal email address at
(e-mail address removed)

Thank you

Why not run dcpromo on another server, move all the fsmo roles to it, run dcpromo on the server your changing the name to to demote it, change the name and repromote it to a dC with the new name.
