Can anyone please tell me how to change the index.html page set up by
my webhost to default.aspx (which is the index page) of my website

open your remote site with FrontPage and delete the page left by the host.
as long as default.aspx is in the list of "default" documents it'll get fed
to the browser if there's no other higher ranking default doc.

If you make web sites for other people, you should check out ContentSeed:
http://contentseed.com/

You need to contact your host. They must make the change on the server.
