What is the procedure to change effectively the domain
name in Active Directory?

We are currently running Windows 2000 Servers and only 1
or 2 NT. We have MS SQL 2000 and Exchange 5.5.

Help is appreciated.

This cannot be done in Windows 2000. You could go back to NT4 and change the
domain name there and remigrate to Windows 2000 but that can impossible
depending on the size of your network. If you upgrade to Win2k3 you can
change your domain name but Windows 2000 does not have this ability.

Open registry editor

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\
parameters

Edit following values:

Domain
NV Domain
NV Hostname

Reboot computer

Thats It!!!

incorrect advice!!!
These changes don't affect the AD topology, and, thus, will destroy the entire domain (or forest)!

That article is only for the Domain Controllers DNS suffix this is not
changing the domain name itself. I have ran into this several times and this
is not from a book this is from the real world. His is original questions is
how to change the AD Domain Name.

OK. Thanks for a correction.
This doesn't destroy anything, this doesn't solve the problem ;-))
