I have created a text box and the text is vertical -- I need to change it to
horizontal but can't figure out how??

Word 2003: select the text box. Then select Format > Text Direction.

Word 2007: select the text box. On the contextual Format tab that appears
when a text box is selected, select Text Direction from the Text group.

Is the orientation of the letters sideways? If so, click on the text box, and
in your toolbar at the top, select TEXT BOX TOOLS. Select "Format" and to the
far left, you should see an option under "Text" that says "Text Direction".
Click on that to rotate your text. If the text orientation is correct (i.e.,
horizontally displayed), your text box may be too narrow for the line of
type. Expand your text box and/or minimize the text box internal margins.
Again select TEXT BOX TOOLS after clicking on text box, select "Format" and
select the option "Size" (far right). Click on the little arrow in the right
bottom corner, choose the TEXT BOX tab, and adjust the internal margins. Or
you could also check "Resize AutoShape to fit Text".
