Is there a way to change the volume of the system sounds
that doesn't affect the volume of Media Player?

Media player has it's own volume control, + it uses Wav and Master volume
control. You just need to set all three volumes. Sounds are wav and master.

So if I want my system sounds to be softer than the volume
of Media player, I can't do it, because they use the same
volume controls.

Load your system sounds into SoundRec, reduce the volume in the file. Save.

Now depending on what you are doing in Media Player. CDs have their own
volume control (in addition to other three volume controls). I have system
sounds quite and CD full volume. This is achieved by turning CD to analog
mode. Then CD volume replaces wav volume.
