how do I get a common subnet mask of 255.255.255.0?? my
XP pro comp has: 255.255.248.0

thanks

Greetings Scott

If DHCP is present, you can easily change the subnet mask by clicking Start, Run, and typing "cmd" (without quotes) and press ENTER. At the command prompt, type "ipconfig/release" then "ipconfig/renew" to renew your network settings. Otherwise, you'll need to configure the subnet mask manually

The answer depends on how your computer gets its TCP/IP configuration.

If you assign the TCP/IP configuration manually, you can set the
subnet mask in the network connection's TCP/IP properties.

If the TCP/IP configuration comes from a DHCP server on the network,
you'll have to modify the setup of the DHCP server to change the
subnet mask that it assigns to your computer. The DHCP server is on a
device other than your computer. On a home network, the DHCP server
is typically provided by a broadband router.
