Changing number format

OK. I have the Header Footer Tools design back on my screen. Now I am having
trouble moving from Arabic numbers in 1 section and changing to Roman
numberals in the next.

I really need help with this as this report needs to be fed ex'd out today.

Did you find the Format Page Number tool? Among the choices it
provides is a dropdown with options like numbers, letters, roman
numbers, etc. (Be sure Same As Previous is unchecked, or you'll be
changing all your page numbers.)

Actually, you can restart numbering or change the number format without
unlinking sections; it's only if you want to omit numbering entirely for a
given section (or of course move the number to another position or make some
other similar change in the header content) that you have to unlink them.

You'll agree it's unlikely they want to continue the numbering from
the previous section, only changing from arabic to roman? 1 2 3 4 v vi
vii 8 9 10?

My point is that it is not necessary to unlink sections in any case. It is
not necessary for restarting numbering. It is not necessary for changing the
number format. If you're doing both, it's still not necessary. It's
necessary only if you want to omit the number entirely or change anything
else about the header/footer format.

You'll need to setup different sections to have different content or
formatting in headers/footers.

Insert a section break at the end of the last page before the footer style
changes.

However, keep in mind that the body of your document will have different
sections as well so Section Page Numbering will restart and some formatting
changes will not be automatically applied to parts of the document in a
different section.

Hope this helps.

Whether Ms. Barnhill or anyone agrees with your silly arguments in
this case is irrevelent.

While your response to the OP was not technically incorrect, it was
clear that you aren't an expert on that particular functionality.
Other than being incomplete and even misleading, there wasn't the
slightest hint of arrogance in your response. BZ

Then things started going south. Ms. Barnhill's post makes it
crystal clear that section number start and format is independent of
section links. Her use of the word "Actually" not only stresses it, it
shines a spot light on it.

A humble person or a person that appreciates the skills and
contributions of others might have simply accepted Ms. Barnhill's
post, perhaps confirmed its accuracy if a skeptic, and then maybe even
go as far as to acknowledge her skills and say thanks.

You on the other hand retort with an argument. Your manner and
delivery speaks volumes about a very ugly character trait. It implies
that you believe that you already know everything and so automatically
dismiss anything and everyone that holds a position contrary to your
views. That is arrogance in its most unbridled form!

Cheers

You sent me an email telling me that your "truce" was over and you'd
go back to whining in the newsgroup -- in order to "prove" that you
haven't gone soft and still hate me.

Ya know what? NO ONE CARES.

I suppose we need to add stop shouting in the newsgroup back to your
behavior improvement goals:

Mr. Daniels' Behavior Improvement Goals (REV-2)

1. Bridle your arrogance.

2. Post when and wherever you like, but stay in your range of expertise.
Always be open to the ideas and suggestion of others. If you venture outside
your range then try to be correct.

3. Stop posting your opinions as statements of fact. If you think something
is easy or if you prefer one method to another then say so in that manner.
Stop insisting or trying to prove that your ways are always best, easiest,
fastest, etc. Let others decided for themselves what is easiest between a
set of given options and decide for themselves if the effort/advantage of
pursuing one approach justifies taking that approach over another.

4. Stop disparaging the contributions and skills of others and selective
advanced Word features. Stop throwing up roadblocks and detours when a user
seeks information on a particular feature or function that you don't
understand or that you don't wish to pursue yourself.
5. STOP SHOUTING in the newsgroup.

Not to stoop as low as to call you a liar, I will concede that you are still
simply demonstrating your offen flawed skill at expressing what other people
really mean. What I told you was:

"Since you choose to dismiss both active and passive challenges to your
arrogance, I will resume the active. Don't want the good folks in the
newsgroup think that I have joined the others to suffer your arrogance in
silence."

Proof that I don't hate you is expresed through the numerous times that I
have assisted you in solving complex Word problems that appear to be over
your head.

We all care and don't want a vein to pop in your head over this. Why don't
you take your medications and rest awhile.

Cheers.
