Changing Motherboard

Is it possible to change out a processor and motherboard
while using the same hard drive, with Windows XP
operating system installed on this hard drive? It seems
to me that I might have problems with motherboard
drivers, etc. If it turns out that I need a fresh copy
of Windows XP, can I simply reinstall Windows XP over my
current copy of XP and thus keep other software and data
intact? I was hoping that maybe I could get away with
doing something like removing all device drivers and
associated hardware, shut down my PC, then install the
new motherboard, processor, boot up, install the new
motherboard drivers, and then reinstall my other
hardware.

I've successfully replaced a Motherboard/proc without reloading the OS
provided the new motherboard/proc used the same HAL list. When I upgrade my
system to an Intel Proc with Hyper-Threading, I had to re-load XP. If you
have a problem with drive detection once you have completed the upgrade,
try removing the Plug and Play entry in Drive Manager. When you reboot, XP
will detect the Plug and Play drive and then go about reloading all your
plug and play devices.

Good Luck
