Changing motherboard and microprocessor =?= Reinstalling apps?

Using WinXP Home with all updates in place.

I need to replace my motherboard but the one I have is no
longer made. So I plan to upgrade it while also adding a
faster mp and more ram. Everything else (hard disk,
peripherals) will remain the same.

I know I'll have to do a repair installation of WinXP but is
there any inherent reason why I would also have to reinstall
my applications as well?

Andrew, that just isn't true. Sometimes a full clean install is
necessary, but most often not. A repair install should leave
applications and data in place. Naturally, the OP has already backed up
his important data because Stuff Happens.

When you replace the mobo/CPU, I believe that you are MUCH better of with a
clean XP install; there are often just SO many driver changes that the old
XP install is not reliable enough.

Use thgis as a chance to clean your system; with new hardware, you'll
benefit greatly.

As an aside, I 'move' My Documents to another drive, and try to have all my
Outlook stuff etc. in there so that a reinstall causes minimal damage. I
also save my downloads to CD, saves me trawling teh web after an XP
install...
