changing Master and Slave

I need to know how to set my writeable CD/DVD drive to
MASTER and my CD drive to "SLAVE"

Comfortable working inside your computer case?

Power off and unplug. Disconnect all peripherals. Open case. Discharge any
static electricity. At the very least, do this by touching a metal part of
the case. If you have antistatic mats and/or wristbands, use them.

Pull out your CDrom drives. Note very carefully the positions of the red
stripe on the IDE cable and the red wire of the power supply.

There are jumpers on the back of the drives. There is a small "cap" that
covers the jumper pins. How the cap is placed designates the drive as slave
or master. If there is not a diagram of jumper posisitons on the drive
housing, you will need to find the technical documentation for the drive -
in its manual or online.

After switching the jumpers, you may have to switch the cabling on the
drives. Consult your system's documentation for cabling information. If
you're setup for cable select, changing jumpers is all you should have to
do. If you are setup with the more standard master/slave settings, you'll
need to switch some things around. On a cable with 3 connectors, one end
goes into the IDE slot on the motherboard. The other goes on the master
drive. The middle connector goes on the slave.

Remount the drives. Reattach the power supplies to the drives (remembering
the orientation of the wires from when you took everything apart).
Reconnect the CPU tower to your peripherals. Plug everything and give it a
whirl.

Do you actually just want to swap the drive lettering?
If so then this is quicker than doing the swap over of CD drive links,
nothing has to be opened or removed from casing etc
