Hello!
I'd need to know if I can install another language version of Windows
XP using the OEM number of the version already installed. I'd need to
replace the Dutch version by an English or French one. Will it take
the OEM number from the Dutch version? Will I have problems with this
MS activation/validation thing if the Win XP were already activated
as Dutch?

Thanks a lot.

Hi

I'm afraid that you can't change the Language of XP. You would have to
purchase a Retail copy of XP in English then dual boot both versions.
Unless you wanted to replace the Dutch version with the English/French one,
then you would have to perform a 'Clean' install.

Why not just go to the control panel and click Regional and Language Options,
you can then set it to your language of choice.

Hi

It doesn't work like that.

No, it won't work. Product Keys are bound to the specific type and
language of CD and/or license (OEM, Volume, retail, full, or Upgrade)
with which they are purchased. For example, a WinXP Home OEM Product
Key won't work for any retail version of WinXP Home, or for any version
of WinXP Pro, and vice versa. An upgrade's Product Key cannot be used
with a full version CD, and vice versa. An OEM Product Key will not
work to install a retail product. An Italian Product Key will not work
with an English CD. Bottom line: Product Keys and CD types cannot be
mixed & matched.

You'll never get far enough to find out, the OS won't install at all
unless you use a Product Key that matches the CD.
