Changing IRQ assignments for audio hardware

I have 3 IRQ numbers that each are currently being used by
2 different devices. My sound is not working. on IRQ 20
there are 2 pieces of hardware, same with IRQ 21 and 22. I
need to manually change them. I know which are open and
which I can actually use of the open IRQ's, but the "Use
Auto settings" feature is greyed out in the Resources tab.
What can I do?

Check with your motherboards documentation to find out what PCI slots(and
onboard controllers) share IRQ's. If your sound card is an expansion card and
you are trying to isolate the IRQ of the card from other devices (SB sound cards
don't share IRQ's well--at least on VIA based mobo's) then you would need to
move the card to a different slot to isolate the IRQ.

Most recent boards are being setup so the PnP OS is disabled (this is what MS is
suggesting on their KB for XP). What this means is that the motherboard is
assigning the IRQ's during the POST routine and therefore the OS is locked out
from making changes.

Also, FYI...the original PCI design only allowed for 4 IRQ's to be shared
between all PCI devices (either onboard or through expansion slots). Recent
boards have expanded the PIC (programmable interrupt controller) and now can
grab up to 8 (??) IRQ's. This is possible now since they can provide more than
16 IRQ's as you have noticed your system has (at least) 23 IRQ's available.

Thanks for the reply. But, this is on the A7N8X Deluxe
mobo, and I am using the onboard nForce2 Audio.

You cannot blame this on IRQ conflicts. I have an A7N8X Deluxe, where
similarly the IRQs 20 through 22 are being shared (with USB, NIC and 1394)
and my sound is working superbly.
