changing information in the footer of the protected document

I have created the form in which I require to change some information in the footer after applying protection for form. If I will use unprotect / protect I am loosing information entered into the form. How I can do it

In addition to Suzanne's suggestion which addresses the point you asked, if
the information you want to place in the footer is contained in the document
you can place it there with a REF or STYLEREF field and not have to open the
footer for editing.
