Just wondering if anybody could help me, i recently have
bought a computer that had XP home edition preinstalled on
it, but most of my software is not supported, so i would
like to go back to Win 98, just wondering if anyone could

Pay attention to what you just typed.. You bought a computer with WinXP
preinstalled on it and now you want to go BACK to Windows 98? How can you
go BACK to what you never had in the first place? hehe *grin*

Assuming you have a legal license for Windows 98 and a CD, you would need to
do this:

1) Boot from the Windows XP CD and proceed like you were installing Windows
XP until it asks you to choose which partition to install on. At this
point - delete the partitions - all of them - and exit the setup.

2) Boot with a Windows 98 Boot Disk(ette) and start the installation of
Windows 98.

I don't recommend this. It sounds more like you should update all your
other software than downgrade to a known less-secure operating system with
1/3 the features and stability.

Hello Shenan Stanley:

Re: what U told Dave, perhaps U could tell me how I can install Win 2K
alongside my XP so I can dual boot and choose between them and the
eliminate one or the other.
Thanx-Cheers-Herb.

Try reading some of these (or all of these) pages:

http://tinyurl.com/cuuv
http://www.winxpfix.com/page5.htm

Because of NTFS considerations (and other similarities), you can see that
everyone recommends if you are going to have a dual install of Windows XP
and Windows 2000, you install Windows 2000 first and then Windows XP - and
on SEPERATE partitions at the least.

why not just learn about xp. if it is virgin system then
you should not have too many problems if you don't try
to 'fix' stuff.

win98 will not be supported for long these days from
microsoft.

progress....learn something new...keep brain active.
3-d windows/buttons is a lot more interesting then 2-d.
