Changing from work group to domain

I have a network with 4 workstations. all are setup under
a domain. however , on one machine the workgroup was
selected instead of the server domain. when I try to join
the domain I get error messages saying the domain doesn't
exist or the there is a problem with the DNS Lookup. I
went through all the steps in article Q260371 and the
server is setup fine, I can ping the client, I can map
drives that are on the server and I can even see the
server, but I can't login to the server and use the
printers. If I go into Network ID to try and join the
network it keeps telling me the client domain is wrong, but
everything I check and based on how the other clients are
setup it is right. If nothing else is there a way to
double check the domain name of the computer you are using?
Everything I've seen doesn't indicate I'm putting in wrong
information.

Also from another client if I look at entire network I can
see both the server and the workgroup.

sorry for the duplicate post, the other posted under
another subject

Reboot the workstation, don't connect to anything. Then rightclick My
computer, Properties, tab Network Identification, fill in the name of your
domain, you'll be asked to give the name and password of a user who's
allowed to join workstations and after a little time you should get the
message "welcome to domain".
Reboot and you should be alright. Check that the nic is obtaining an IP and
DNS automatically from your server.

Marina,

Thank you for your suggestions. I tried it, but it didn't
work. I get an error message windows cannot find an
account for your computer on the computers domain. It says
it's either invalid or doesn't exist.

(after I reconnect the cable to the computer) If I go to
properties and try to switch it from a workgroup to the
server domain it asks me for the name and password of an
account with permission to join the domain. When I put in
the information I get a message "the credientials supplied
conflict with an existing set of credentials.

Although the server can't see the client or i guess I
should say the server doesn't show the client logged in I
can map the drives on the server to the client and connect
the printers. So at this point it's as if she is connected
to the server, but when you look at entire network all you
see is the workgroup and not the network server connection
and you don't get the option to login to the network at
login it's like it's logging to only use that computer.

If I could get it to switch from workgroup to the domain I
think the problem would be solved.

Is there a way to look on the workstation and see what it's
domain name is or change it?

On the PC, go to a command prompt, type

net use * /del <enter.

and then try again.
