Hello, I need a little help and was wondering if anyone
had any insight into this problem. I am trying to remove
a Japanese version of Windows xp from a desktop computer
so that I can install English XP but so far nothing is
working. I have tried formatting the hard drive from
inside XP and from a boot disc and it won't work. I have
also tried to remove windows manually but it won't allow
me to delete boot.ini. Anyone know what I might do to
solve this problem.
Thanks

Boot from a legitimate English Language Windows XP installation CD-ROM.
When you are asked whether you want to install, indicate YES. If you are
asked whether you want to Repair a current Windows XP installation,
indicate NO.

When the Windows XP Setup Wizard gets to the part about where you're going
to install Windows XP, you have the opportunity to repartition your
hard-drive. First, read the on-screen instructions and delete all the
partitions on the hard-drive. Then, create new partitions as you please.
Then, select the partition that you want your English edition of Windows XP
to install on. Then when the Setup Wizard offers your formatting options,
choose the full (not the quick) formatting option for the file-system you
prefer (i.e. FAT, NTFS).

No Windows installation should be able to survive that much destructive
partitioning and formatting - Japanese or otherwise.

Just a side note, Windows will never format the drive upon which it
resides.

And, to my knowledge, fdisk on the Win9x EBD will repartition even a WinXP
partitioned hard-drive. I've done it myself.

Greetings --

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered
the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of
the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of
boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
