Hello. Could someone tell me any pros and cons from
moving a large Access program from 97 to XP? Would we
encounter a lot of problems? What better features does XP
have over 97?

Thank you,
Jen

I switched several databases over and the many
errors I was getting running access 97 on WinXP Pro
are gone. Watch that your active X controls work
properly.

Why upgrade? to get rid of bugs. MS no longer
supports 97 (from what I know) and any bugs will
be fixed in XP and 2003, but with 97, no further
development will be done. Other than maybe ADO,
pivot tables, or web page access, I see little
reason to upgrade. MS has been unable to supply
any new features to Access that are critical to
small businesses. At least that is what my clients
say. If you want to get the latest bug fixes,
so access will run on the newer operating systems,
then you may want to upgrade. Also note that there
are lots of companies that have not upgraded from
97, so there are loads of programmers who are
experienced with it. On some forums, if you have
a question about the newer versions like why a
form based on an ADO query is not updatable, they
often go unanswered. (ADO is too new and cannot
update as of Access 2002. I hope this was changed
for 2003, but have not been able to find
documentation on this yet.)

If there anyone has any new features that their
clients cannot live without, then please let me know.
