Changing File Types

I've got quite a few MP3's, half of which have the Media
Player icon where under Properties it says it is an 'MP3
audio file (mp3. The other's in the same folder display
some generic icon that under Properties it just state's
it is a 'File'. The ones with the Media Player icon pull
right up, but the others' pull up a dialogue box
requesting which program to use use to open. I've tried
following directions to change file types, but the file
type I'm trying to change is not listed, therefore I
can't change it to the Media Player file type. Thanks for
your help, whoever you may be.
 
1.. Open Folder Options in Control Panel.
a.. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
b.. Double-click Folder Options.
2.. If you want to see all file name extensions, clear the Hide file extensions for known file types check box..
Then you can rename them as you want.
