I was running win NT and replaced the C drive with a new hard disk and
installed WIN XP Pro.
Now the new drive, (my system drive), has been designated as F: drive
is this fixable without reinstalling or reformatting ??
Can I change it to be called C: drive so that programs can find windows
properly ?
If so how do I do it ?

You can't change the system partition easily, although I've seen some folks
post directions here on how to bypass that. Whether things work correctly
afterwards, I have no idea, but at this point your registry, etc. points to
Windows on your F drive, so if you use some magic to make it change, it has
to also know to change the registry and whatever links you've got. Otherwise
it will go looking of F, and whatever other drives you change will be wrong
as well.

The only foolproof way I know to do it, is to reformat. If it's a new
install, there's not much to lose.

As far as programs not being able to find F, it's not a big deal. I have one
dual-boot computer with XP on D and it works fine. I had one program that
wanted to default to C to install, but every other one has seen D as both
the system and installation drive without a hitch.
