Hi!
I had a SATA disk with drive letter C, an IDE DVD with letter D and a IDE
disk with letter E.
To day I mounted two more IDE disks.
This changed the letters of my DVD to G, an the already installed disk got
the letter F.
Is it possible to make a fixed allocation of a letter to the disks and the
DVD?

I have mounted my Fixed IDE disk on prim. IDE master.
I have mounted my DVD on Sec. IDE Master.
I have 2 racks for easy switching disks mounted (Prim IDE slave and Sec IDE
slave)

If possible I would like to give the DVD the letter D, the fixed disk the
letter E and the two racks the letters F and G.

Is it possible?

I am running XP home SP2

Best regards - Ebbe

Move the DVD letter designation down to S or T for instance and be done with
it already. If you previously installed programs from the DVD drive, there
may be hauntings and complaints from those programs.

You can juggle drive letter designations on the remainder, some temporarily,
until you get it the way you want it.

To stop my drive letters from being shifted around I change the DVD and/or
CD drive letters to X and later. This keeps them far enough down the
alphabet that hard drive changes have no effect.

You move it too far down, then you have other media to contend with that
like that letter range.

I have not tried thes before.
Can any of you tell my how i change the drive letters?
Thanks - Ebbe

put a disk in the DVD drive
start -> run -> diskmgmt.msc
Rightclick on the dvd in the right hand window part, choose "change letter"
