Had various problems with this server, finally had to re-install. At that
point found that the original install had not worked correctly. Thanks to
anyone who answered earlier questions.
Now, followed the steps for installing _very_ carefully, which means the DNS
address is 192.168.16.2. Now, everyone expects it to be 192.168.0.1, but if
I change it by changing the IP address of the network card in the server,
and/or changing the address stored in the DNS console, something no longer
matches up and the DNS server can not be found.
Any ideas?
Dave

Make sure that the DNS service is running.
Open the DNS console.
Delete the DNS server listed at the old address.
Add a new server and enter the new ip address of your server when prompted.

Be sure to go in and fix any address references as needed in your zones
(forward and reverse).

I would assume yes, but I've never used the SBS. I think SBS is limited in
other ways, but I don't have all the details. Perhaps it's just the client
limit of 50. Maybe someone would be kind enough to point out the
differences to me.

To err is human...
To really screw up requires a computer.

The DNS-server should be pointing to your server-IP. So if your internal nic
is on 192.168.16.2, DNS should be pointing to that. On the tab Forwarders
you put in the ISP-DNS-numbers.
Make sure that on your servernic(s) the DNS-field is pointing to your
server-IP as well.
Have a look at www.smallbizserver.net to check your setup. How many nics in
the server?
Also the microsoft.public.backoffice.smallbiz2000 newsgroup is very good and
especially for SBS 2000.
