Be sure to check the transfer mode on the new drive. It happened to me and a
couple of others on this board where the new drive defaulted to PIO mode
instead of Ultra DMA 5. And the primary drive slowed to Ultra 2. This will be
critical if you are going to capture to the new drive. You may need to go
into the BIOS and toggle the setting on the drive to AUTO. I had to do this
on my Dell. Even though I still had access to the drive, the BIOS didn't
autodetect it so it couldn't set the appropriate transfer speeds. Once I made
the BIOS change, all was good. The instruction manual for my Dell gave
explicit instructions on how to install a 2nd drive (cable settings and all
which needed to be cable select), yet they forgot to put in the part about
the BIOS change.
